Help, Parking Lamps Don't Work, Headlight Don't Turn Off...

You know, I don't think I did too much wrong. Installing a motorized license plate retractor, and now I have a problem. Needed to tap into the parking lights, and figured instead of using the crappy tap that came with the kit, I would just cut off a rear license plate light I didn't need, and crimp it to the kit I got.

Anyways, I guess it didn't like that, the light made it about a second till a fuse blew. Anyways, after looking through every fuse (can't find my manual) under the dash and in the engine compartment, found one burned out 5 amp. Replaced it, but parking lights (front corners, rear lights, and instrument panel) won't work. When I throw on the parking switch, the headlights come on, and will not turn off, I've had to pull the battery a couple of times.

Cut the connection off the rear plate light, and still no good. Can't find any other fuse that is blown, and can't figure out why the headlights are coming on. Again, can't find my manual to double check the fuses, but tested the ones in the engine, checked the big fuses by eye, and pulled all from under the dash and checked em out. No deal. Switched auto lamp and panel dimmer every which way, and I don't even know what to check out.

BTW- 99 F150 5.4 2WD. And the license plate kit only hooks to two parts on the truck, the battery and into the parking lights. So it couldn't be any other connection. Please help, I'm just damned confused.

The devil finally got ya.
I don't know how ro begin meaningfull help but to tell you about what I see on the drawings for your prediciment.
First to have the head lites come on in parking position would suggest the multifunction switch has contacts that are burnt togather. That is the only location I see the two can get togather in a physical way. This could operate the headlamp relay powering the head lites.
I would suggest you get a copy of the Haynes book and look at page 12-23.
There you will see the fuse info and the circuits for the exterior lighting to use in tracking down the problem.
This is why it is difficult to help with this kind of misfortune.
I have another retracting plate if you want it for free--- just kidding. YA arn't runnin moon shine are ya? and hide the plate.
Good luck.

But why wouldn't the headlights turn off? Anyone have an easy solution, I can't see how they could arc together like that. Ill get that book tomorrow, unless someone knows a nice easy fix.

Oh it still retracts by the way. I thought it would be cool, and can get me through some redlights late at nite. Just these parking lights. And I still don't know why they wouldn't turn off. Spose it needs a good look tomorrow.
