The headlights on my 1997 F150 do not work. When I cut on the switch the taillights come on. The fuse in the engine fuse box is good. When I check for power on the inside fuse box there is no power on the hot side of the fuse. My wiring digram says there is a headlight relay. Does anyone know where this is or what my problem could be.

Light bulbs blown

 

Gene, the power to the headlites all comes through a 30amp main fuse then thru the headlite switch then thu the multi function switch on the column then thru yet two more 10 amp fuses and one 20 amp.
If there is no headlites either high or low beams, try the hi-beam flash function.
If still no lights then the main 30 amp fuse is common to all functions and may be blown.
30 amp is fuse 8.
Test fuses 16, 26 and 28, and suspect the multifunction switch in the process.

bluegrass has got to be pretty accurate. Had a similar thing happen w/ my '93 recently. Everything lit up except the headlights, even the high beams worked when flashed. Bought a new multifunction switch and installed, then rechecked the bulbs to find out that whoever checked them the first time was wrong, the bulbs were blown (hi and low beams are separate filaments in the bulbs, so that's why hi beams still worked). So anyway, my suspicion is that the multifunction switch shorted out or screwed up at some point and blew my bulbs, because both my bulbs were blown, and blown bad. I suspect this also because my wiper delay has been screwed up for years, works sometimes, doesn't work sometimes. So the switch was likely bad, now w/ the new multifunction switch and bulbs everything works. It is either one of the things bluegrass listed, or if it's not any of those I'd say it could be a wiring problem somewhere.
