I know this thread is very old but I had the same problem with my 98. Started out just once and a while then got more common finally staying on to the point I had to pull the fuse.

Not a sensor, not the latch........... damn $8 relay under the dash in the fuse box. Ford dealership stated they quit making that relay but we tried the replacement relay for the A/C and it works great.

 

our 94 F150 the dome light & cargo light would not go out. We pulled the fuse to be able to check it out the next day. Found that the push button light switch in the door frame was inset fully. At the base of the button was a thin nut. Used a socket to remove the button switch - it was collasped/broken.
got a new one at the local Ford dealership for $9.00 and put it back in.
All fixed!
