Keyless Entry Keyfob

How long do the keyless entry keyfobs usually last? I ask this since mine does not seem to work as good lately. I can be getting something out of the back of my truck and my wife is sitting outside the passenger side door, while I click away at the unlock button. I have to take a couple steps to the side before it will open. My rig's about 3 years old and I use the keyfob 99.9% of the time for locking./unlocking. Can the battery be replaced?

Thanks...

3 years is pretty good for the stock battery. You can buy replacments at WallyWorld or Radio Shack. Some autoparts stores will even replace it for you. Minor job. Many Ford units give the replacment battery number on the outside.
