I need wipers in the rain.

I have a 1997 F150 X cab, XLT, 4.6L engine. I bought it in 2000, and every once in while, usually after a rain, the wipers, interior dome light, hood light, and power windows do not work. They would usually start working again once the weather dried out. Now they are not working at all, even after a dry spell. I checked all of the fuses, both under the dash and under the hood, and none appeared to be bad. I have read about similar problems, but mine seems unique! I would like to avoid dealer repairs because of high prices! Help!

Sounds like your truck leaks water under the dash areas that has dropped on the GEM control module that controls all the functions your having problems with.
Pull it out and clean the connector and terminals and try it. If no help, replace it.

Thanks for the prompt help. I am not proficient in auto repairs...what is the GEM control module and what does it look like? Should it be located near the fuse panel?

The GEM module bolts to the back of the central junction box under the driver's side of the dash. Have the windshield water checked for leaks, more than likely, you'll find a leak on the upper corner of the driver's side, running water into the GEM/CJB. You'll need to have the windshield resealed/replaced and replace the GEM and CJB.

ETA: You can try verifying this by running water across the windshield at the upper corner on the driver's side. Run it for a while, then listen closely to the central junction box/GEM assembly for any hints of arcing or crackling inside. Also, if you've got any compressed air in a can, blow it into the fuse box and see if any water comes out.
