CD Changer
CD Changer
Hey all. Don't own a Haynes manual for my truck, it's a 1997 F-150XLT extended cab 4x4, and I need to get the CD Changer out. It's the one mounted in the rear of the cab, on the driver's side. Not the one under the seat. I have the rear seat bottom out, but haven't removed the top of the seat yet. Where should I go from here? And does anyone have a working factory CD Changer that I could buy?
better off leaving it there
it's actually quite common for the 97 and 98's in the cab to stop working... I got into mine and figured out how hard it was to get out, and that the only thing that really fits back in is the stock 6 disk clarion factory changer... so do this... go buy a new changer for 100 bucks that holds 10 disks and plays mp3's it's worth the 100 bucks also to have a tech fix the clarion factory changer... then you'll have 16 disks and soooo many songs you won't be able to listen to them all on a cross country trip... if you buy a new changer put it under the back seat behind the driver...
if you insist on taking out the factory changer...
you have to remove the back seat...
remove the side panel...
remove the seat belt bolts...
interior window trim...
then good luck fitting your hands down in there to unscrew the unit...
believe me this sux hard core... leave it there...
if you still want to do this I'll sell you my extra sleeve.. check out how much they cost at ford.com
well good luck...

TruckStang is right about all that you have to remove before you get to the changer, you just need to take your time & remember where it all goes together. Its really not hard to do , it just takes time. I changer my system out last fall. I put in a new pioneer head unit, plus a 12 disc changer where the factory one was. Had to do alittle cutting to place it there. Then I made a new wood piece around it to hide where I cut it out. Stained in light oak, looks real good.
I had to make a mounting seat for the new changer then bolted right where the factory unit was. Plus while I had it all opened up there I put in new speakers too, also pioneer. Alot nice sound then the stock setup had .
