Gem?

well lets start here..
my windows, dome lights, door lights and wipers all stopped working ..
ive done some reasearch on it and it point me to the GEM
i have heard that water will leak on it and it will mess up stuff..
i also hear it can be fix by just cleaning it up .
now, i have no idea how to get to it, where it is and what it even looks like
can any one help?
if i have to replace it does anyone know how much it is ?
any tips on this issue ??

I had this happen a while back in my expedition. Turns out it was a little 5-A fuse that blew and everything quit working including the radio. I can't remember what the fuse was for but it obviously wasn't for all that equipment at 5A. It was located near the bottom of the fuse box in the Expi if that helps. You might not be able to tell the fuse is blown. If you take an extra 5-15A fuse and move it around in the fuse box you might find the problem.

Good luck and hopefully that's all it is.

We need a little more info first.... make, model, and year for starters.

This problem has been brought up many times before. Yes, it could be the GEM, yes it could be from moisture, yes it could be a fuse.... could be a lot of things.

I have the exact same problem on my 1997 f150. I took it to a Ford dealer service center and they said that 1999 and older models don't have a GEM. I thought that to be bogus, so I took it to a auto electric specialist. He did diagnostic stuff (not sure how to explain). He was convinced it was the "Body Control Module", which I understand to be the elusive GEM. He said he would not repair it, he would leave that for a dealer. I would like to replace it myself, but do not know where it is exactly, whether I can damage the system by working on it, or where to buy one. I also need help.

It's on the driver's side, under the dash, behind the fuse panel. To remove it, remove the fuse box cover, the lower panel on the dash, the fuse box, and the GEM should be right there. It'll have three longis flat connectors plugged into the side of it.

It controls pretty much everything but the engine and transmission. Most lighting and accessories are routed theough the GEM.
