wiring in scanner

I'm not really what to search for, so I'll just make a quick post. I have a police scanner that I want to hardwire to the truck and have it power on and off with the radio (i.e. scanner on in run, on , and acc position). Does anyine know how this can be done and what wire I can splice into or where on the fuse box. Thanks, John

Just wire up an inverter and plug it in.

The scanner runs on 12volt DC current, so there is no need for a inverter, and i'm going for the custon installed look, without wires everywhere or plugging into the cigarette lighter. So I want to hardwire it, but I just need to find a wire or fuse to wire it to. thanks

you can always pull the dash apart and wire it into the cig lighter, and then change the fuse to a larger fuse

That's ridiculous!! NEVER increase the size of the fuse.... You could easily overheat the circuit, melting the wiring.... NOT a good idea!!!

You can do it a couple of ways..... either piggy-back it onto the existing switched stereo wire, or use an existing switched source to trigger a separate relay which powers the scanner.

Now, that being said, mobile scanners in a motor vehicle are usually illegal in most municipalities. Might want to check with the local constabulary before doing this one....
