How to replace the clutch safety switch?

Occasionally my truck won't start- it's pretty likely the clutch interlock switch, since everything else gives signs of recieving current (the idiot lights are on, etc) but I don't hear any solenoid clicking. I've been able to bump-start it on one occasion where it did that; other times it's started after a few pumps on the clutch and/or wiggling the connector at the switch.
I went to an auto shop and looked at their parts book. Their book doesn't have a listing past '88 for the 'clutch interlock switch' but it -does- have a "neutral safety switch" listed for the manual transmission (!). But it's $70 and looks like it's got a big metal plate attached, plus some linkage. I don't think it's the right part at all.
When I went under the dash and disconnected the piston to the clutch master cylinder from the linkage, I noticed that the switch is kind of a cannister wrapped around the piston arm. But it won't slide off - I haven't gone any farther in disassembling yet. My Chilton manual doesn't have any schematics or pictures of this switch, either. Does anyone know what I'm getting into here?
