Cruise Control Recall fix

I got my recall notice last week from Ford about the Speed Control deactivation switch problem. Looks like they're just going to put a fuse inline between teh switch and the power source.

Anyone have any idea what size fuse they're going to use? I'd rather fix my own.

Thanks.

Fuse, fused link, whatever they're putting in there. I'm just trying to find out the correct amp draw I need to guard against.

I'd rather them not touch my truck. It's got a couple mods on it and I don't want them jacking with it.

Thanks.

My recall notice said that the parts are not avaiable till November. They want to unhook the switch first in the meantime.

So if you go to the dealer now, you will not get the entire deal fixed, just them unhooking the switch and telling you to come back later when the parts are in.

Ok, it appears that they are installing a new "fused wiring harness" - once they become available. I just need to find out what kind of current draw I need to protect against.

Here's a Ford Press Release:

Its just a "circuit breaker" fusible link. The only new harness will be where it plugs into the old one and then into the resevior. Then you'll have a fuse that will blow and not be covered under recall. Thanks ford, thats brilliant

I got the recall notice last week for 1994 F-150. Just disconnected the wire connector at the master cylinder and taped up the connectors. Looked at the master cylinder pressure switch and saw no brake fluid.
I assume the brake fluid is leaking thru the pressure switch diaphragm and allows the current to flow from the power wire thru the brake fluid to the master cylinder housing and to ground.
As soon as someone posts what the fusible link is I'll put one in myself.
I'm also thinking about bypassing the brake cylinder pressure switch. Since this cut out is a secondary method I have no problem overriding it, plus I don't what to lose my speed control at a later time possibly when I'm using it.

I never use my CC, and the thought of wasting my time twice because of their poor design, pixxes me off.
I think I'll just unplug / tape and call them in December.

When the recall for my 2000 F150 came out I installed a 2A fuse into the wiring harness hot wire until the switch was available. I then bought the new switch from the dealer for U$18 and installed it myself. Took 15 minutes vice 5 hours at the dealer.

I got mine done last week. Someone on here mentioned that for now they just disconnect it so I checked last nigh and it has the new part on there. They're probably just telling people November so they don't get swamped.

I'm kinda like Forest Gump....."I am not a smart man." However, I'd like to point out something. If they "repair" it and your truck/house burns down as a result, BINGO! Their fault...new house....new truck....major cash settlement! WooHoo!

If you "fix" it and your truck/house burns down as a result, (insert loud game show "wrong answer" buzzer here)....No new house....No new truck....and your insurance company will try to screw you because of your "repair".

Trust me....take it to the dealer. Let them do the swap and watch over their shoulder if you don't want them jacking around with your mods. Don't put yourself at risk.

Seriously, what dealer do you go to. It took twelve seconds for them to disconnect it and exactly ten minutes for them to put in the new part. The did not even pull it in to the bay. Tech walked up and did it in the lot while the service guy was getting my paperwork ready.

That's Bohn Ford (Bonehead Ford) in New Orleans on the Westbank. I hoped that the hurricane would wipe that POS dealership off the face of the earth but I guess there was some professional courtesy involved with Katrina.
They would not do the recall unless I left the truck with them for at least 1/2 a day. Everytime I took my truck in for maintenance it had more problems coming out than going in. I'd rather drive my truck to the zoo and park it in the monkey cage with a toolbox than let the bonehead techs touch it.
