You are going to need an exploded view of the steering colum and see what all is involved, sorry I can't help with that, but hang in there. Some one will chime in soon I'm sure.

Does the new cylinder stop at the different positions when you turn it?

No the new cylinder does the same thing, it might even spin more freely than the old one

I's not the cylinder, it's what's beyond the cylinder. If you take the cylinder out of it's "house" (has to be done with the key, the way you changed it to put the new one in), you can still run the truck (start, run, shut off) with a screw driver. The part that you feel the "clicks" at when you move to different positions is BELOW the lock cylinder. Almost positive that's where your problem is. If you take the lock cylinder back out and use a screw driver I think you'll find it feels the same as now because the "contact" area is shot. It's the part that all the wires go to.

Thanks Code for jumping in on this one. I was at a loss as how to explain it to him.

I think you are right, I couldn't remember which piece had the detents (click stops) in it.
