Question Odometer Light Faulty on '99 F-150

I have a '99 f-150 4x4 with 22,000. Today I noticed that when I turn on the headlights, the odometer goes black. In the past when I would turn on the headlights the odometer would dim, but I could always read it. Now without the headlights on I can see the odomenter in the normal bright light, but as soon as I turn on the headlights the odometer goes dark.

Any thought on where to begin. Haven't had to work on this truck since I bought it 6 years ago. Used to work on electrical systems in my youth, but not on these new electronic systems.

Any useful suggestions would be appreciated.

Found Another Thread that may reflect same problem

Went to "Intermittent Odometer - A Repair "

May have to try that repair. Excellent info and says a lot for his ability.
Thanks.
Still would consider something similar if it was simple and quick. Have tried removing a dash many years ago. What a mess that endind up being. WOW

I had the same issue a couple of days ago. Turns out my son had rolled the dash light dimmer switch down. It was daytime, but I had my lights on because it was raining. Just a thought. Sometimes we all over look the simple stuff.

It's not too difficult just lots of screws to remove. The hardest one is behind the lightswitch. Just keep pulling 7mm screws until you have access to the instrument cluster, disconnect, replace the lightbulbs and reassemble. I found replacement bulbs at the auto store for $2 a pair.
