My old 1957 Ford SW had a brake light switch mounted in about the same place
as the cruise deactivation switch. It was also activated by fluid pressure, I do
not remember any of them burning up.
Maybe you could replace the cruise deactivation switch with a brake light switch from 1957 Ford.
