Power window stuck driv. side
Power window stuck driv. side
Hi everyone.
new to the forum. And I'm new to trying to repair my vehicle - gotta start sometime right?
A couple of days ago the drivers side power window lost the ability to go up. It's not off the track, loose, or anything like that. I checked the fuses (in the cab - 15w fuse and the engine power fuses 30w mini fuse) and both are good fuses. I took the door panel off, and the vapor screen, and tried to look and see if anything was broken, disconnected,etc..all seemed fine there.
When I 'one touch' or hold the "down" position, I hear a click - as if power is going to the motor. however when i hold the "up" position - nothing.
Thanks for whatever help you can give me
I'd like to fix this myself and learn something.

I had a similar thing happen in my Expy.
The click you're hearing is the relay under the dash. When you have the door open, does the dome light "dim" when you press the window switch? If so, then the motor is getting power, and is probably toast.
That's what happened to me (with the window stuck "up"). Cost me a bunch of bones to have a new window motor put in...
If the relay click is only heard in one direction, and the dome doesn't dim, then perhaps its just the switch.

Scientific, super high tech, official power window motor test:
Key on. Hold the offending window switch in the UP position and slam the door a time or two fairly stoutly, but don't kill it of course, we don't want to break your glass. If it goes up, you need a window motor.
Simple, yes?

Hey Rookiedude,
I am actually having the same problem with my 99 Expy. While I had the door apart, I hooked up the switch, turned on the key, held the switch in the Up position and gently tapped the motor with a screwdriver. The window went up and that is a lot less annoying than the duct tape and plastic when you are traveling down the highway. If you know what I mean
Although, Quintin's idea seams more satisfying
I just priced out the motor at Autozone.com for $45. plus the core.
Good luck
