SuperCrew running light problem

Hello all,

Was returning from a fishing trip last night and though my running/interior lights were working when we started back (could see them on the boat trailer) sometime during the trip they stopped working. Not only that but I could no longer turn off the headlights. Even after the truck was turned off!

Left the neg off the battery last night to save it and started working on the prob today. No fuses blown as far as I can tell, no smoked wires yet still no running/interior lights. Or sportlamps either I might add.

So you know, it came trailer wired and haven't had a problem in a year with the boat. Also, I've had the sportlamp mod on the truck since it was a month old- no problems there.

Any ideas??

('01 XLT Screw- 4.6L, 4X4- bought new)

Well, turns out it did blow a fuse (shows you how old school I am, only looked in the dash fusebox).

At any rate, it is fuse location #5 (trailer tow/backup/Park Lamps), the obvious one, in the Power distribution box under the hood.

So I replaced it and as soon as I turned on the lights, it blew again, no running or interior lights and I was unable to turn off the headlights without disconnecting the battery again.

Please help!!

OK.. number six was blown as well, replaced, now everything works. (Suppose I should continue with my troubleshooting before posting so soon ) Well see if it holds.

Meanwhile, still worried about the trailer connection. I remember having problems getting the running light feed working when I first started trailering (standard 4 wire pre-wired from factory, first use) No voltage when lights on.. tapped into a switched 12V. Obviousely worked for a time.

Is there something I should know about the factory plug? Seems quite a few folks here are having trouble with trailer lights...
