Question Confused about securilock

Hi I'm new to F150 online. I just got myself a 2002 supercrew and I'm confused about the anti theft system. One click on the lock button on the remote locks the doors...Ok A second click "activates" the alarm or does it. I guess it also deactivates the ignition but isn't that redundent since you need a PATS key to start anyway?

Thanks
Bob

First of all, Welcome to the boards.

Second, to clarify, it is NOT an alarm......I was under the impression that it was, but if you hit your truck (with fist, not a bat, without denting) it does nothing. When my 2002 truck got broke into TWICE, never was there a chirp, siren, honk...nothing.

PATS=Passive Anti Theft System
--->nothing more than smoke and mirrors to "fool" would be burglars.
--->it does require a key that contains a small microchip that when put into the ignition, gives a code to the truck computer, which should match. If it doesn't match, then the computer won't allow the engine to turn over.

That's it.

Period.

First click locks the doors. Second click will sound the horn one short beep to confirm the doors are closed and locked. If you hear 2 horn sounds a door is ajar. Go back and close it.

I wouldn't call it a ripoff.... it will stop a thief from being able to smash a window, pop the cylinder, and drive off with your truck. It won't, however, stop a smash and grab. Of course, neither will a viper or CodeAlarm system. The thieves see what they want before they smash the glass. Alarm or not, they're still going to grab it and go.

Additionally, should said thief reach in and pop the locks or open the door, the alarm will sound.

The PATS system works and works well for what it's designed for. It's a theft deterrent. Should a theif see your car with PATS and the one next to it without PATS, which one will the break into?
