Where to locate ground

I have just purchased a Superwinch model T1500 with the 15' remote controller. I have been told to install the remote controller box in the vertical position inside on the passenger side wall at the back of the box. The box on my Supercrew is fibreglass with the plastic bedliner and I am having difficulty finding a ground. Can I attach the ground to the metal tie-down brackets in the box? I had thought of running a wire from the control to the tailgate supports that are metal.

Would it be better to get a proper ground strap, or can I just run a wire and screw it into the vertical tailgate support on the passenger side? The rest of the wires on this unit are 8 guage.

To get a proper ground, do I need to scrape the paint away from the metal, or not?

Thanks in advance.

Im not sure on the wire size you have for the ground but, the best place for a ground would be on the frame.

To make a really effective ground, use a "star washer" between the "wire terminal" and the body. As you tighten the screw, the washer will "scratch" into the metal
