Cruise Control and Hard shift 1st to second

1994 f150 Flareside

Cruise control erratic. When set, it goes up and down at least 5 mile per hour. Also trans shifts hard from 1st to second gear. Both of these problems started at the same time.Possibly the speed senor in the rear? Truck has had all maintainence done on a regular basis. As I'm the original owner and a mechanic.Just not too famaliar with some of these sensors.

I have read where this can be caused by metalic shavings collecting on the speed sensor and the excitor ring. Seems to be a more common problem in trucks with Limited Slip diffs.

You have to drain the Differential fluid and clean the ring and the sensor tip.
You may be able to just take the sensor out and check it for shavings.
At the very least you will get a diff fluid change out of the deal.
