Unhappy Instrument Cluster Illumination

I have a 1998 F-150 4x4, 4.6L automatic, 162,000 miles.
Most of the instrument cluster illumination lights have burned out.
I have removed the instrument cluster according to the Haynes manual and help from other posts.
How do you get the bulbs (sockets) out?
Haynes says "depress the bulb and rotate it counterclockwise."
Well they don't depress and they don't rotate very far.
I don't want to twist too hard as they may snap in half.
Any ideas?

On my old Ranger they just twisted out with no problem.
These F150 sockets seem to be locked in place with locking tabs.

You just push them a little and turn them. They then pull out.

what type and how many bulbs?

just testing the image capability here...

count the illumination (ILL) bulbs...
5 black sockets - bulb no. 194 or 194LL
2 of the 19 tan sockets - bulb no. 37

others
1 each blue socket - A4WD - bulb no. 81
1 each red socket - THEFT - LED

sorry for the poor focus... villagephotos ripped the bits out of my photo.

In my experience you really have to push to get the bulbs to release. I couldn't get mine to turn without hurting my fingers. I resorted to using pliers and placing the instrument cluster on the table with a towel under it. I didn't have to push too hard with the pliers, but harder than I thought I should have.

You would think that they would make it easier to change a light buld!

I had the same problem, but when resorting to pliers they came right out!
