2001 - Keyless Entry???
2001 - Keyless Entry???
Just bought a 2001 F150 XLT 4x4 used from a dealer. It just occurred to me that I was only supplied with ONE key to the vehicle - and NO keyless entry remote. Am I mistaken - I HAVE to believe that this truck came standard with a remote keyless entry? Any suggestions on how I find out if this is the case? Where I get a new one (or two)? And how I get additional keys for the truck?
Thanks!

They should have 2 keys for the truck,if not have them get the last owner to get the 2nd key and fobs back to the dealer.People are bad on not turning in keys and remotes that go with the vel they trade. If they can't do that get them to make you a new key and give you some remotes (they should have some laying around to give you) Dealers are bad about not getting that all keys and remotes with a trade.
Make shure you get the second key I am shure you have the PATS system and without two working keys you cannot program keys If you loose youre one and onley it will take the dealer with a scan tool to reprgram the PATS.
When I ordered my XLT, I had a line item for the remote entry (key fobs ), it was coupled with something else in a package.
The standard equipment list on the door tag says nothing about remote entry, but I can't find it as an individual item. There is a perfered group number on the optional list, which I cannot recall what it covers.
If you follow the programming for the key fobs in the manual, that will tell you if it can be programmed or not.

Can't say for sure about the PATS key, but I recall reading that you can program a new key for yourself, but it will take something like half an hour.
As for the remote entry, its an option on most makes. The last 2 GMs I bought, all the hardware was there. I bought the fobs on eBay and followed the programming instructions. My 99 is my first Ford in about 20 years. I expected the same and bought fobs on eBay (again), but the programming routine didn't work. It seems that if you didn't order it, Ford didn't install the module to make it work. Look just forward of your fuse box for a beige/white module, about 3 inches square and about an inch thick. It might have a 5 digit code stamped dead center. I have a blank space with 2 mount screws and an empty rectangular connector. If you have the module, find the programming instructions - a web search will show it for you. See if you can enter programming mode. If you can, buy the fobs and do it.
