CB Antenna Recommendations

I am thinking about putting a CB in my 97 F-150 Extended cab. And for the antenna I was thinking about putting it on my toolbox in the back. Could this work? And what brand do you recommend. I heard that Wilson is a good one. And one more thing, I know that lots of people think its funny to break your antenna or steal it, so I was wondering how easy is it to remove a magnetic mount antenna? I was thinking of getting one of these so I can just put it on when I am on the highway and when I really need it instead of having an antenna on there all the time.

Thanks

Cool

Mounting the antenna to the tool box works fine. Seen it mounted there on many trucks. I always recommend K40 antennas. They have several different kinds. As for the magnet mount antennas, I would stay away from them. They work just fine, but the base has a nasty habit of messing up your paint job. Little bits of dirt get under it and scratches the paint and it will rust. I know from past experience. I've heard a remedy of putting a dryer sheet under it. I do not know if that works. My K40 antenna is mount to my driver side front fender. The bracket is mounted in between the fender and the hood. I never had anyone mess with my antennas, and I've had them on my vehicles since 1990.

Alright, I am thinking I am going to use a magnetic mount antenna on my toolbox. I still don't have the actual CB radio yet though. What would be a good quality radio that I could get for around $100 or less that has a P.A function? Is cobra a good make?

I've always bought Cobra. I also have used the PA function on them.

I have the Cobra 18 WX ST II, which is a great radio, but it doesn't have the PA functiong. I had to add the Cobra 19 DX II behind the seat (I got one for $15 of eBay).

If I were going to buy one again, knowing what I know now, I would buy the Cobra 19 DX III. It's less than $100, compact, looks good, PA System. Sweet.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Another thing I was wondering about was the Weather Channels on the CB's. Are they very useful and is it something that I should look for when I buy? I am just curious as to if you can get updates in whatever area you are in.

Another thing is Scan. Is that something that would be good to have? Because the Cobra 19 DX III does not have scan.
