cruise control problems

Purchased 99 F-150 4x4 with air bags deployed. Not replacing air bags but unable to get cruise to work. have checked fuses under dash and in engine compartment plus have changed out de-activation switch on master cylinder. Lights in control switches on steering wheel light up when using headlights at night. Does this mean that the clock spring is ok or am I missing something???Put in a fake airbag cover with horn connection provided and found a blown fuse in engine compartment for horn and replaced but still inoperative. Your help in locating problem please....sparkie

More than likely the clock spring is bad. It has alot wires running through it. Maybe the wire for the lights is good, but for the cruise is not.

You should be able to put the cruise into self test With the key in the off position depress and hold the cruise controll of switch and the turn the ignition to the run position (do not start engine) release the cruse swith cruise indicator light should flash once telling you it is in self test, Five addidional flashes indicate a bad servo with in five seconds depress each switch position on, resume, coast, and set /acclel. When each is depressed it will cause the light to flash this has to happen in the order given and within 5 seconds of each other to continue the test.If the lamp does not flash with the last button but after a short delay flashes a code count the flashes 2 flashes brake switch or clutch switch circuit failure 3 flashes diactavation switch 4 flashes speed sensor out of range after the last part of the test it will activate the throtle cable and return it to the idle position have some one watch for this or repeat test to see if cable activates.

cruise control problems

Today, installed new clock spring and run a check on old clock spring and it showed to be good. Installed new one anyway. Still have no cruise control. Did hear the servo going thru some kind of series when we tried the above test. Possibly the light is out on the instrument cluster for cruise control. Tried to see if it was working anyway when we took it for a spin. Took the servo and module apart and didn't look like anything was wrong. Changed out servo and module out of salvage yard to no avail. There is juice coming in to the module from two wires. Don't know if this is right or not. Any other or more ideas will be appreciated...thanx...sparkie
