Ummm, you can't just swap out PCM's. They have to be programmed to the cluster in order for the PATS system to work. Once you program one PCM to the cluster, the other PCM will not work again until reprogrammed. The cluster can only recognize one PCM at a time.
Like WVtrucker has mentioned, the dead cylinders having compression and no way to release it will only hurt your mileage.
Plus the way the failsafe cooling system works is not to just turn off 4 cylinders at a time. It shuts down different cylinders at different times. It doesn't just shut down predetermined cylinders. It varies which cylinders it shuts down. Otherwise 4 cylinders would be cool and 4 cylinders would still be overheating.
You could redirect the wiring from the injectors to individual switches. Just flip one switch and that cylinder would shut down and so on for the rest. But then you would be setting codes for misfires because the PCM would sense it. Sounds to me like one big pain in the ****, and possible engine, cat converter damage. When shutting down cylinders, the PCM would try to compensate by adding more fuel to the other cylinders, causing those cylinders to run very rich, and possibly overheating the cats.

Interesting I did not know that about the PCM's either... Why cant they have made them plug and play! I knew it switched cylinders every 32 engine cycles to cool it down. I am also concerned about that too. I dont know how effecient of a method this is for cooling the engine. But will it drop my actuall operating temp to less than 190* shutting off the coolant thermostat thus preventing heat in the winter? Also would I have enough power to run AC in the summer?
