Angry 4.9l Inline Six regulator

Hey everybody,
My name's Jason and I'm new to the group. I've got a 1985 F150 with the 4.9 straight six I bought about a year ago. It has the TFI-IV ignition and a rear post alternator with the remote regulator mounted in the fender aft of the starter relay. Something is draining my battery dead and it seems to be an orange wire with a light blue stripe running from the back of the alternator to the Regulator. With the key off, should this wire be hot? Mine is. Bear in mind that this truck is suffering twenty years of half-a**ed home mechanics and hardly any of the wires between the regulator, starter relay, battery and alternator are the wires the truck came from the factory with. Can anyone tell me what the ports on the regulator are (I have three wires coming from the regulator, two go to the alternator)? Any and all help is greatly appreciated, this thing is giving me fits.
THanks,
Jason
