I just bought a 2000 F150. The only problem that the truck has that I know is the over head console (Compass and Temp) doesn't come on. I checked fuse #23 and it was good. Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance...

 

Drop the console assembly and check for battery voltage to ground at pin number one if voltage is present and display does not work check for ground to body black wire. if you have power and ground display should actavate if not display is bad. what hapens when you press and release mode switch???

 

I removed the overhead console and I checked the voltages of all of the wires in the connector and I don't get anything. I tried this with and without the key turned on. I know the ground cable to my tester was good because I was able to get voltage at the cigarette lighter. Any other suggestions?

 

the power wire is white /lt blue check for battery voltage with key in run position, also there are two grounds one black/ lt blue and one just black The power comes directly from fuse 23 under dash through possably a conector that is black with 34 wires. check both sides of the fuse with youre volt meter then look for that white/lt blue wire in that conector and check for voltage. If all else fails run a power wir up to the console and see if it operates could have a brocken wire, but check that conector wire may be pushed out of one of the comectors. Thanks for the replies, I checked both sides of fuse 23 and I get voltage. I took the white/lt blue wire out of the 12 wire connector in the console and tested in directly, still no power. So it seems that either the wire is broke or there is some other bad connection such as the fuse box or another connector. You mentioned possibly a 34 wire connector. Do you know where this might be? With all of the wire enclosed, how could it break? Thanks again...

 

My ford manual is on cd and small yhings are not real clear but it states unde left side of instament pannel. I emagine if you follow out of the fuse box it either plugs into the box or is slightly after the box. Sometimes the pin of the conecter will not be locked into the conecter and will push out not making a good connection. sometimes when they crimp the pin to the wire it will be a poor conection or the wire will pull out. If you cannot find the bad spot you can always make a jumper to go around the problem area splice a new wire from the fuse source to that white/ lt blue wire where ever you can reach it.
