speed sensor

Hi, all. I just bought a 95 f150. Love the truck, but got a couple of little bugs. The speedometer is mostly inop. Reads a little now and then. Odometer (lcd) ticks up a couple of tenths every mile or so. Cruise won't lock. ABS fault annunciator comes on. I get that I've got a speed sensor problem, so I crawl under the thing looking around the transmission for the sensor, and I can't find it. The guy changing the oil at Fleet Management pointed out the sensor on top of the differential. Makes sense, so I go into autozone to get one. Thay hand me speed snsor with a little square shaft sticking out the business end and a connector which I recognize as the same as mine. I pull my old one out and it looks NOTHING like what they sold me. They have a list of part numbers their sensor replaces, and none of them are my number (F85F-9E731-AB). Anybody know what gives?

I'll ask about the temperature guage pinning intermittently later. lol

This is just a long shot but ask them to pull one out for both the next year and the previous year.
The factory might have made a running change , the stores' record system has not caught up with.
Had that happen on an 86 where they put an 87 rear in with different brake cylinders. No store had the right listing until I ask them to look up the next year cylinders, then bingo.

Wish it was that easy. they tried that, so did advance auto parts. Good guess, though. Thanks for the reply.
