keypad entry

Hi I have a 2000 ford xlt with a keyless entry that seems to not be working I tried changing out the batteries in the keyless devices and still nothing now the power locks inside still work so any suggestions as to what might be going on? Ive also changed the fuses inside that could control the locks now the dealership is telling me i need to put my truck into test mode by turning it into run mode 8 times then pressing buttons on the lock? I have no clue what they mean ive tried it but with no luck now the locks were working when i got the truck in august but recently an unkown aftermarket theft device shut down the whole truck in my driveway the dealership removed it and im wondering if this could have damaged the keyless entry device inside the truck any help would be greatly welcomed.

Get out youre owners manuel and follow the instructions for reprograming youre key fobs, you will need to do both at the same time.
