Ignition Switch Lubrication

My ignition switch, especially when I turn it to "Start," feels very dry and rough. I'm wondering if a little well placed grease, silicone, or graphite somewhere could cure the problem. Anybody have any idea where to start? I hate to just start spraying stuff up in there. My brother's 2002 SuperCrew and a new Expedition I drove last week both feel smooth as glass when starting.
I'm not sure if it's the switch itself, the key mechanism, or somewhere in the linkage. Anybody every do any "lubing" in this area?
Thanks in advance....
John

switch lube

Dear Big Easy John I have the same problem, the part on ur steering column is just the key lock, its connected to the electrical ign switch thats under the dash, connected by linkage. The tumblers in ur key lock get corodied cause they are now making the tumblers outta cheap cold rolled steel that rusts, they used to make them from brass, or brass coated that never rusts, what i do is get a can of spray lube with the little straw on the nozzle, and spray just a tiny bit inside the key lock, and move the key in and out to work the lube in, it makes a big difference. I use WD 40, I also spray it in my door locks too. If that don't fix it, you can purchace a new key lock from any auto parts store, comes with a new, different key, for about $35, and they are easy to install, i just installed a new on on my sisters Ford Taurus, her daughters boyfriend tried to steal her car by pounding a screwdriver into the keylock and messed it up.

Thanks, Moto. Sounds like an easy fix....it really feels like it's in the switch or linkage, but I guess it couldn't hurt to try....
