Was drivin the 97 last night and noticed the light behind the gas gauge and whats below it to be very dim. I assume there is a bulb behind those two that burnt out.

So, how hard is replacement? Should i expect more to go soon and just do it then? And where can i get parts to do it?

It is very easy to remove the cluster. Buy the Haynes manual and the instructions tell you how and what to remove.
When you replace them. Replace all if you dont want to take the cluster out for a while after putting it back together.

 

Where can i get the lights?

Sorry there seems to be a few types of each, so you might want to grab a handfull of each prior to tearing into it, to save you another trip.

You might find some LED versions, but I have noticed that the LED type behind indicator lamps work great, but general lighting they are not as bright, due to the LED being directional, vs incandesent having a wide splatter type light pattern. I have a set of LEDs on my ZG, and they are nice fof the turn signals, high beam, neutral indicator, and oil lights, but other wise the speedo, and tach are now a bit dimmer then stock. Works fine at night for me. YMMV.

I want to change out the bulbs in my dash but im pretty sure they are on circuit boards. Does anyone know how to do that or if the dealer can do that for me?

there is a circuit board on the back of the instrument panel but the light bulbs (194's ussually) have little holders the turn and come out then just remove and install light bulb then reinstall the holder. its not a difficult job but does take some time because of all the plastic pieces that you have to get out of the way. a dealer could do it they will probbly charge anywhere from 1.5 to3 hours labor to replace all the bulbs in the dash.

Just did it myself a few weeks ago, I took pics but have not put anything up yet.

The bulbs are actually #194 and #74.

You literally have to take the whole dash apart to get the cluster apart. trickiest part it the headlight switch. Read the manual carefully or you could break off a tab.

I'll try and get something up soon!

If you do do this I suggest changing all the bulbs and look for the Sylvania 194LL (Long Life) & 74LL.

That way maybe I will not have to do it again for a LONG time!!!

 

Anyone know how many of each type of bulb there is on the gauge cluster??

 

Ok i just changed them, i think there was 5 or 6 of the 194 bulbs on the gauge cluster.

The gear shift indicator took me awhile to figure out how to remove. The whole thing, slides straight down.

Only took me less than an hour to change the bulbs. So not as hard as it looks!
