2001 F150 Supercrew -- horn and speed control do not work
Need help! Horn and speed control do not work. Checked fuses and relays for each and they look good. When the horn is pressed, there is clicking sounds. Think it must be a loose wire or something that both systems are connected to.
Do you have an Air Bag light as well? It could be what I believe is called a 'clock spring' which allows for the transfer of electrical power from the stationary steering column to the rotating steering wheel.
hes right
just think about it... a steering wheel that holds electrical connections, that needs to be able to turn 360 degrees several times to function right... sounds like whatever distributes the signal between the stationary part and moving part is failing... i woulda never thought of it like that
but definately sounds right.

Ford calls that thing a "sliding contact." As others have said, all it is is a ribbon that moves with the steering wheel, providing power to the horn, cruise switches, and airbag.
Here's what you'll see with the steering wheel removed. The connector hanging out in the breeze from the center goes to the airbag.
