Starting problem, need guidance
Starting problem, need guidance
backed into the barn yesterday to unload a load of hay. went to start back up and all i get is a loud and repeated clicking sound. Battery is fine. lights are good and dim when you turn the ignition then you get the clicking deal. so, truck is stuck in the barn and is 30 miles from the nearest dealer.
is my problem starter/solenoid? If so, can one with modest skills replace? to define modest skills the most difficult thing i have done with this would be to change the altenator.
any assistance is greatly appreciated...

The repeated clicking sound is a tip off.
Start by pulling both battery cables off, cleaning posts and cable ends with the proper tools, reinstall tight.
Go to the starter relay and tighten the nuts both sides.
Check the ground cable on the block for being tight.
If this does not get the problem, the starter is suspect.
This is all work you can do at the sight.
Note: battery is fine does not tell much.
A voltmeter test does not revel it's load capacity or any information about it's true condition.
Is it's electrolite up to satisfactory level?
