reverse lights
reverse lights
I have a 93 F-150 XL with a manual transmission. The reverse lights stopped working on the truck a while back and I finally got around to working on them. I figured that it was a small chance that both lights failed at the same time so I replaced the bulbs. They still don't work. I examined all the wiring around the back of the truck and it all looks good. So I got a new reverse switch that fits in the transmission. Still no lights. I checked all the fuses and they're all good. Where should I go next?
Probe the hot feed on the light socket for power with the tranny in reverse. If you have power I would suspect a bad ground. Follow the black wire to the very end and make sure it is properly connected to ground.

some of the parts i'm not too worried about. the truck has a ton of miles on it and most of these things die (not necessarily bulbs) in the life of the truck. i also don't have all the necessary tools ready and handy though. else i probably would've done some testing.
dont need a lot of tools for electrical work but must have a test light to check for fire and ground. Dont just go throwing parts at it, do a little testing before hand will save you money and head aches. Power at hot to reverse lights? terminal pushouts at the connectors? Is it plugged into the tranny?
