Brake lights do not work

I have a 99 F150. My main two brake lights do not work but the third light does. The turn signals and hazards lights also work. I used to have this problem only when I tilted the steering wheel down, but know it does it all the time. I have read before that there are some wires in the steering column that are too short and get pulled on when the column is tilted down.

Anyone else had this problem and or have any idea which wire is being streched or any other possible suggestions for a fix?

I have already tried replacind the brake light switch on the pedal which did not fix the problem.

Thanks for any help

You are probably dealing with either a connector issue in the column or a bad multifunction switch (turn sig switch). The high mount stop lamp is powered up before the multifunction switch, the rear stop lamps are powered through the multifunction switch.
