Have Code "P0443 Evaporative Control Valve Circuit Malfunction"

OBDII Scanner detected a P0443 code today. It is a "malfunction in the electrical circuit for the purge control valve in the evap emission control system.??

Gas mileage sucks ( < 12mpg). Where is the purge control valve and is it the likely culprit?

Thanks,

Jeff

The code you describe has mostley to do with the evap canister purge valve for the evap im system. This valve is located above and to the left of the brake booster it has 2 larger lines one small vac line and an eletrical connection. acording to the ford service manual it apears to be an eletrical problem short or open in the wiring a valve failure eletrical should have a reading of 30to 38 ohms at the valve or a processor problem. Hope this helps. I would check the valve first for the 30to 38 ohms this should be done with valve cooled down. if this is ok with key on engine not running check for voltage at conector to battery ground should be 10.5 volts or more If ok check for ground.

Great news! Somehow the connector leading to the purge control valve was loose?!?. I don't see how it could become loose, but it was.

Special thanks to the main man chucks bp who pinpointed the problem. I will clear the codes when it stops sleeting AND SNOWING (in New Orleans area?) We are actually having somewhat of a white Christmas.

Merry Christmas, especially to chucks bp.

Thanks,

Don't you love it when someone helps and it fixes the problem.
I found this site looking for an answer for a problem, but now I come here for entertainment. I also try to help if I can.
