shift from park
shift from park
I have a 2000 F150 auto
it just started to were it would not let me shift from park.
It acts like I am not pressing the brake, the brake switch seems to be working fine.
I believe it to be the machenism that actually keeps the shifter from releasing or some type of electrical signal.
I can only get it to release by shutting off the engine and turning the key one click from where you enter it into the ignition to where it releases the steering wheel but does'nt turn anything on.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? It's a new one on me!
Thanks in advance

OK try this.....
On the master cylinder (toward the end) is a switch that , when closed, turns off the cruise control when the brake is depressed. I believe this also controls the lock for the shifter when the brake pedel is depressed.
Unplug the connector to the switch and look down the switch. Is there brake fluid in there? If there is, then you need to replace this switch as it is shorting out (from the brake fluid).
The switch is a dealer item only, about 25 bucks. This is a common problem in these vehicles.
Good luck.
