keyless brain or lack of in a 2000 xlt

I can't find the keyless brain in my 2000 f150 XLT 4x4. I tried the key programing trick(didn't do squat) and looked for the whitish box under the dash but to no avail. By the way, I wouldn't have gotten this far if it weren't for the search feature of this forum and all of y'alls advise, thanks.

Anyway, I found a guy selling a truck like mine but with all the right parts. Can I just buy his brain and plug it in under the dash? Is the wiring already there? My truck does have power windows and locks and a dash anti theft light that blinks on occasion.

Thanks,
Chad

when you do the key on key off thing, you need to do it really fast. It took me about 10 tries to get mine to work.

you prolly know this but i'll repost it any way.

To program the transmitters yourself:

Insert a key in the ignition and turn from 3(Off) to 4(On) eight times in rapid succession (within 10 seconds) with the eighth turn ending in the 4(On) position.
The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that programming mode has been entered.
Within 20 seconds, program a remote transmitter by pressing any button on a transmitter. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that the remote transmitter has been programmed. (If more than 20 seconds pass before pressing a remote transmitter button, the programming mode will exit and the procedure will have to be repeated.)
Repeat the previous step to program additional remote transmitters. The doors will lock/unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed.
When you have completed programming the remote transmitters, turn th ignition to 3(Off) or wait 20 seconds. Again the doors will lock/unlock to confirm programming has been completed.
That's it!

Sometimes the "whitish" box can be black in certain models....

I have ablsolutely no clue if you can just "plug" one of the brains in and expect it to work. I'm sure there is some wiring that is involved and it would also include the addition of a few relays. (after reviewing many wiring diagrams for alarm installs, there is always a diagram for (w/factory RKE and w/o facory RKE).

If not anything else, see if you can find the CSM (Central Secirity Module) on your friends truck and compare it to yours to see if you have one.....if not, it may be your cheapest option to get a cheapo car alarm and just hook up the keyless entry wires and be done with it. That's what a local Ford dealership did for my sister when she bought her new 1996 Mustang GT w/power locks and windows but no RKE. She said she wanted RKE to close the deal and they just slapped in a $40-50 K-9 alarm and only hooked up the RKE wires.

The more I read and ask folks about this mod the more I think it is a big 'ol pain in the A$$! Never thought about buying an alarm and using only the lock unlock feature. I hate most aftermarket products. I really wanted to stick with factory stuff. I wonder if any of the alarm companies make a unit that can use factory remotes or make a unit that has factory looking remotes? Anyone know?

Thanks,
Chad

Buy it from Ford...it's their PowerCode Series (made by CodeAlarm). Ford swapped out to the PowerCode series in 2002, so most of the wiring diagrams are for 2002+ models. Not sure how much the wiring has changed from 2000. If you're interested, Ford makes a PowerCode module that is RKE only (2W7Z-19A361-AA). Good luck...and take that transfer case floor shifter will ya It also requires professional installation (although the wiring diagrams can be had online or through a 1-800 fax back system).

This was for the Deluxe RKE/VSS package. The RKE ONLY fob may look slightly different (less buttons).

Tony,
You rock. Thanks for all the help. I'll keep you guys posted on any changes I make or at least try to make on my truck. I am really warming up to the idea of trading it in for the truck I really want. Anyone know of a cheap 2000+ supercrew lariat?????? Seriously though, thanks everyone for the help.

SCrew's didn't come out till 2001 SOOO the answer to your question would be no, I don't think ANYBODY knows where to find one, unless you work at Ford and have access to their proto-type warehouse

Oh, BTW, if you wanna save yourself some money, you could probably just pick up a Code-Alarm CA210 Keyless Entry system for a lot cheaper than what the Ford dealership will try to charge. Since your 2000 doesn't have any of the fancier features of the Lariat trim, you probably won't need the options that are programed into the Ford "rebadged" models.
