Need LED Wiring Help

I have a 12V LED I bought off of Ebay and I want to hook it up as a fake alarm. So basically it is supposed to turn on when I pull the key out. Any ideas on how to do this? I have searched to no avail.

Thanks in advance.

Positive lead to constant 12V, neg lead to ign. Ign lead usually shows ground when off, at least enough to run the LED. I would also recommend fusing both sides.

Is it a flashing LED or just a steady on LED. If it's a flashing LED, its just a matter of hooking up the LED to a something that has constant power w/ ignition OFF and no power w/ ignition on. There are many ways to do this.

If it's NOT a flashing LED, then it's probably more complicated than you're willing to handle...it involves building a time circuit to "flash" the LED on and off....and I would suggest you just buy another one of those packages that are pre-built.

It's the flashing kind. Do you know what wire has power on with ignition off on an 03 F150? Thanks guys.

Careful when wiring to the ign... I suspect that it does NOT show ground when off. If it did, remote starts would be having a big problem! DOUBLE CHECK FIRST!

btw...ign wire is darkblue/light green.

Where is the best place to tap that wire? In the column? So positive to that wire and just find a ground?

FROSTBY

It is not really a TRUE ground, but it should be enough to run his LED. (It will light the "ground" indicator of my Snap-On LED test light...)
