Fuel guage malfunction

I bought a used '99 F150 a week and a half ago. For the past 4 days the fuel tank reads empty on my first drive of the day. On the remaining drives it seems to function properly. Also, when I actually do read emoty and fill the tank, it has only taken 13+ gallons each time, so empty really doesn't mean EMPTY. Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

There's a problem with sulfer in fuel contaminating fuel tank senders.

Ford's advice is to try different brands of fuel-usually 5 tanks will cure the concern.
