Not Turning Over....

Hi all,
This is my first post here. I have searched the forum and have not found a solution to my problem.
I have a 93 XL w/300 straight 6. I went to start it the other day and all I got was a clunk. Every time I turn the key I get 1 clunk each turn. I have replaced everything. Starter, solenoid, relay, the ignition switch under the dash, neutral safety switch, new battery, new ground cable(terminal was broken). If I run a wire from the battery to the starter, it will start right up. What am I missing? Am I destined to put in a push button starter? I hate rigging stuff up!!!
I appreciate any help........

how many volts does your ignition swicth send when you turn the key? It might not be pushing the 9-12volts required.

Re: Not turning over.

Check your ground to the engine block. There has to be a bad connection somewhere for it not to start with the key, but start with the wire attached.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!

Well, I got the old girl to start today. The POS Cable was corroded under the coating. Should've been one of the first things I checked. I called my local dealer and they wanted 65 bucks for the harness, but I was able to get one at half that price. Not to mention all the new stuff I bought that I didn't need. Oh well, I shouldn't have to worry about the starting system for quite a long time. Thanks for all your help. Nice place y'all got here!!!!

On my truck, the neutral safety switch is on the transmission. I had a friend change mine........
Thanks again!!!!!!
