"hotwire" windows

Hi.. I've got a 93 f150 and the driver's side window is stuck in the down position. I just got the car, but the guy who sold it to me says it worked until a little while ago, and sometimes tapping the switch, or even hitting it would make it work. This led me to believe its not the motor but the switch. I have a new one ordered, but i really need to get that window closed now because the truck stays parked in a bad neighborhood. are there any wires i can cross or anything i can do to simulate the switch being pressed so i can get this window up asap..? thanks guys.

You could try taking off the door panel and checking the switch assembly for loose wires. If that's not the case, see if you can figure out which wires you could short together on the back of the switch to get the window up.
Sorry I don't have any better info for you.

Congrats on the new toy.

Yeh i was having some trouble figuring out what to cross. my newest idea is to use an accessory wire i have coming out of the cigarette lighter adapter and tie that into the wire coming out of the "up" side of the harness under the switch. If its not enough power to raise the window, it may be enough power to tell me if my motor has any juice left in it. just a thought, still open to suggestions though, they would be much appreciated.

Thanks on the congrats! Its a beauty, 5L v8, 302, king cab, long bed, 8" lift, 38"tsl boggers, dual straight pipes w/headers...

If it really is the switch, you can jumper the motor, you will need power and ground, you should have power and ground available at the switch, that power wire will already have the proper protection in the line, your lighter doesn't have a wire with enough guage to run a window. You should remove the door panel and access the motor, unplug the connector, there are only two wires. The motor is reverse polarity, ground on one side, power on the other, makes it go up, reverse the wires to make it go down. If the motor is good, this will work for you. Do not jump it at the switch unless you ID which wires you need to jump, don't assume it's the wires next to the drivers sweitch.

Lucky you!

I know I had the same symptoms on my Windstar I used to have. The problem was not the switch, but a dead spot on the motor. It would not go down. Give the door a good bang in the right area and it would work again. That went on with me bangin the door every so often for about a year and one day it would no longer go down at all. So I took the door apart, and I had nothing to lose so I gave the motor a good upercut on the chin with a hammer. Darn thing worked every single time till I sold it about a year and a half later.
