headlight problems

f150 1996 351 Is there an easy way to access the headlight assembly, other than removing the entire front grill part around the light? There are loose parts inside assembly, they bang bulbs causing them to go out. They need a cleaning too. But access is murder, any ideas?

ivdpb,

I don't know if Ford had gone to it in 96, but my 97 had this and still used it in 2000.

Open the hood and look at the top of the headlight assy. on the back of each headlight there's a metal slide bar going down the back it's about 1 inch wide, it comes up to the top and makes a 90 degree bend forming a tab that can be pulled up about 1 inch unlocking 2 pins on the assy, pull these up and the assy will almost fall out the front onto the bumper.

I have seen this same idea on some vehicles were they use a metal pin instead of a flat bar

Good luck!
