alternator tips

I have a 1998 F-150 4x4 4.6L V-8 with just over 150,000 miles.
I think the alternator has finally given up.
Battery light is on all the time. Battery is not charging.
Anybody know of some tricks/tips to changing the alternator?

What about an alternator manufacturer?
And what's the expected price for a new or rebuilt alternator?

Advance Auto Parts recently quoted me $128 for a 130 Amp 142 mm diameter case and $148 for a 95 Amp 129 mm diameter case.
Palladium brand?

The battery clamp on the negative terminal was severly corroded. After cleaning the whole mess with baking soda, the metal on the clamp seemed very thin and brittle. Damn cheap battery terminal clamps if you ask me. I chopped off the stock clamp and put on an aftermarket clamp.
