what could be causing my guages to reset at startup.

on startup the vehicle hesitates to start..

then after it starts all the guages go crazy.
they all go to the top.
the speedo goes to 100 the gas goes to full and so on.

then go back to normal then they go to where they are supposed to be....

is my battery dying???

 

check the battery connections !

my wife's Grand Cherokee was just doing the same thing... we replaced the battery terminal connections and everything was good!

however .. if that doesn't fix it .. then have your alternator checked along with the battery

Detours_SCrew is on the right track. The computer is getting reset, so you indeed have a battery problem. Get a battery cleaning brush and scrub everything down and then snug up the cables. If it's not at the battery, I would check the starter next.

My expedition did same thing battery had a dead cell so the instument pnl computer wasnt seeing proper voltage on start up. Check battery.

 

got it taken care of... loose cable...
