power door lock trouble 1999 f150

hi guys im new here and im hoping to figure out why my girlfriends 1999 ford f150 truck door locks dont lock you have to manually push them down and pull them out to unlock the truck..when you press the unlock button the lock will go up half way and then go back down, i did a search and a common problem i noticed was the actuators going out but does this sound like the same problem due to the fact that there is still a slight movement in the door lock?

any help is appreciated!
or can you point me in the right direction to fix this problem

thanks!
Greg

I can tell you exactly the problem. The door actuators are bad. It is a common problem. If you do a search for actuator you will find a lot of threads. I replaced the one in my passenger door. It is not a difficult task, just save yourself some aggravation and pickup a Haynes or Chiltons manual to show you how to remove the door trim.

Once it is off, the actuator can be replaced. I orderd mine from www.fordpartsonline.com. $42 if I remember. The part that I received was different than the part I took out, and although the new model was smaller it worked great.

Good luck!
