output shaft speed sensor

i have a 2000 f-150 v6 4.2 4x4 sport model with a manual transmisson. service engine light came on and speedo stoped working had it put on computer at dealership and came up output shaft speed sensor. went to auto zone and bought one and now i can't find where it goes. i found transfer case speed sensor but can someone help me out on where my oss sensor is located? thanks

The speedo operates off the VSS. The Vehicle Speed Sensor is mounted in the rear end.

i just signed on to all data.com and it shows the oos on the 4r100 and 4r70w but not on m5r2. and in the pitchures only the m5r2 shows a gear shifter so is that the tranny that i have and if so why does it not show where the oos is?

ok so how can i test the sensors that i do have so i know which one to replace?

The 4x4 manual tranny doesn't use an OSS. It uses the transfer case speed sensor to generate a signal to the PCM for vehicle speed. On the 4x2 models it uses the OSS.
