'86 F-150 Code 18... strange
Ok I just replaced the TFI module on the side of the distributor because the truck wouldn't start and there was a memory code 18 this is eec-iv... So I clear codes after replacing and truck starts right up, no codes no problems... That was a week ago.. Now I went out to start it and when I turn the key the Fuel pumps don't turn on like normal and what do you know the truck doesnt start... So thinking it was the fuel pump relay I bypass it and try to start the truck with the pumps running and still won't fire... I pulled the codes again and Im getting code 18 again... What is going on here??!?!?!? If it was the tfi module again why wouldnt the fuel pumps come on?
It is an '86 F150 302 EFI.

New Fuel Pumps, New Relay, No Run
I am having the exact same problem on my 85 F-150 EFI 302. Turn the key and the fuel pumps don't come on. Straight wire the fuel pumps and there is no ignition. The worst thing about this is since it is a farm truck it only gets driven randomly; so once it starts running it will be fine, but once it sits for a month or so, it does this same thing. Any ideas on what to check.
Inside the dist is a pickup called the PIP.
This sensor not only is the reference for all engine functions but also it's signal restarts the fuel pump when cranking begins.
Code 18 indicates a wire/cable problem.
Check the TFI plugup, the plug at the coil and could even be the ignition switch.
