Keys in ignition and lights on indicator

I would like to remove or disable the annoying beep my truck makes when I open the door with the keys in the ignition. I hunt and need to be able to get in and out in silence. This is a 97 F150 XL.
Thanks
Steady

You can do one of two things:

1) Remove the keys and put them in the cup holder. Problem solved.

2) Remove the lower steering column shroud. Identify the BLACK/PINK wire that goes from the exterior of the ignition cylinder housing into the wiring harness. Cut it. This will prevent the chime from sounding when the key is in the ignition, the ignition is OFF, and the door is opened (all three must be true). This will not kill the chime if the ignition is in any other position than in OFF as that is controlled by a different set of logical circumstances.

Be sure to disconnect the negative terminal on the battery first....there are some high amperage wires in the steering harness...not to mention a few air bag wires....not a good thing should you go astray by accident.
