Dinger Removal
Dinger Removal
How can I remove the dinger from my 2000 F150? On older style trucks there was a black box with some prongs on it and we took it off one truck and the other truck we bent one of the prongs to keep it from dinging. How can I rig my truck up where the dinger does not ding?
Thanks

OK, somebody has to ask. Exactly what "dinger" are you referring to? There are seat belt chimes, key left in ignition chimes, you left your lights on chimes, etc. This will help get you the right answer.
I think Now a days, Most "dingers" are Multi-Purpous "dingers".
I mean that, Seat Belt reminder, key in ignition chime, lights left on chime all use the same "dinger" at different "Ding-rates".
If the F150 is like my Windstar, the "dinger" is inside the GEM (General Electronics Module). That Module controls the relays for Power windows, Chimes, Battery save feature that turnes your interior lights off after 20 min. That Stuff. When I changed the one in my windstar for troubleshooting something, the "dinger" sounded different when the GEM was not bolted tightly to its rightful spot. But it sounded right again when it was put back into place.
I would be willing to bet that the GEM on the F150 is probably located somewhere above the drivers side foot well. It will have many wires going to and from it with multi-pin connectors.
I can't remember if the GEM from my windstar was designed to be opened or not (Probably not or I would remember opening it
)
But If you can open it, That's your "dinger"... I think
