Wiring the bed lamp?

Hi guys, I want to wire the bed light (the lamp above the sliding rear window) so it can turn on by a switch from inside the cab. Currently it only turns on temporarily when a door is open or when I use my remote (like it should).

I was wondering if there was any literature on this, as a search yielded me with nothing. Maybe I'm just not using the right search criteria. Local auto shops didn't have and service manuals for me to look at the wiring prints. Thanks in advance.

The factory shop manual (make by Helm, Inc) has all the schematic drawings you could ever want. If you can find someone with a manual or a Ford dealer that will let you study it you can easily find the bed lamp wires under the dash. The ground should be good, but you'll want to clip the power lead. connect the end to your switch that you want to use (make sure you've got enough wire to reach your mounting spot). run a wire from the other pole on the switch to either a hot lead under the dash or directly to the battery (either way make sure you've got a fuse between the switch and the battery so you won't melt anything down if there's a short).

Hope that helps.

polchi,

It also turns on when you turn on the dome light from the dimmer on the light switch.
