Unhappy Autolamp feature not working

I have a 2000 Expedition Eddie Bauer and the Autolamp feature isn't working. I put the headlight swith into the Autolamp position but nothing happens. Got any ideas?

Autolamp Testing Procedure

1) Engage Autolamp switch to 'On'.

2) Open Owners Manual to page....(nevermind don't open it).

3) Place Owners Manual on top of Autolamp sensor grid located on dash.

4) Wait seven seconds, Headlights will come on.

5) If Headlights do not come on, drive to dealership (during daylight). Remove Owners Manual from dash, approach salesman, use Owners Manual to strike salesman about the head and shoulders repeatedly.

Is the key turned to on ? Mine comes on once I start the truck...Even in daylight time...Could be you need check the fuse but if the lights work with your manually turning them on it would not be a fuse...The book may have a answer at that...Course I never read the how to book...Shows how slow I am...
